A few years ago, we didn’t have smart meters. While this made it more difficult for meter readers, it was better for us. Fast forward to now, and smart meters are extremely common. There are a few things you can do to help block smart meter radiation.

Opt Out

While this varies from state to start, in many cases you can switch back to an analog meter by opting out. Check with your local power company to see if you can opt out, and if there is a fee for doing so. Again, this depends on where you live.

Cover Your Smart Meter

There is a product called a smart meter cover. This does exactly what its namesake implies – it covers your meter. Many offer protection up to 98 percent of the RF radiation coming from a smart meter. This is an ideal option if you cannot opt out of your smart meter. And what else is great is that your power company still gets the readings they need.

Make a Cover

You can make your own smart meter cover if you’re on a budget. This involves using aluminum mesh or aluminum foil.

Shield Your Windows

Protective shielding films have been proven to be up to 98 percent effective. The only downside is that you’ll get less natural sunlight. On the other hand, if you live where it gets hot in the summer, this will make it cooler inside.

Use EMF Blocking Paint

EMF blocking paint is an effective way to block EMF radiation up to 99 percent. Not only that, but once you do it, it’s more of a permanent solution. It works for all types of EMF radiation, too. You typically get a black primer coat, then cover it with any paint you choose as long as it’s silicon resin paints, water-based emulsion paints, or facade paints.

Distance is Key

If none of these other solutions are what you are looking for, at least make sure you have distance from your smart meter. Don’t place sofas or beds up against a wall near the smart meter if possible. Sometimes it takes a little planning and rearranging, but distance is your friend.
