What About My Computer and EMF Radiation?
Many of us already know about how blue light from our computers affect sleep. But what about my computer and EMF radiation? Is it a risk? And if so, what should I do about it? Here’s some information to help you in your search.
Computer Risks
Did you know that it is not unusual for people to spend up to eight hours on their computer? Look at your own computer habits, and you’ll probably be surprised at how long you’re using it. And the thing is, when you’re seated in front of a computer, there are different electromagnetic radiations you’re exposed to.
Computers emit both VLF (Very Low Frequency) electromagnetic radiation and ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) electromagnetic radiation, as well as soft x-rays if using an old style Cathode Ray Tube monitor
What Can I Do?
As it turns out, there are certain rules in place in other countries. For instance, in Britain women are not allowed to use a computer in the workplace if they’re pregnant. This is because of the potential for radiation damage to the fetus.
Yet, most of the time you have to make your own changes to ensure you’re safer from electromagnetic radiation. One way of doing that is to cut down on the proximity to your computer. While you can’t be 20 feet away from it while you’re using it, you can be sure that it is not near you when you’re not. This is easy with a laptop – just put it in another room – and always shut it down.
With a desktop computer, don’t put it in your room where you sleep. If you have children with a computer in their room, place it as far away from the bed as possible. Also, you can make sure it’s shut down each night when not in use.
What About My Computer and EMF Radiation?
There are quite a few side effects from computer EMF exposure. These include fatigue, feeling spacey, skin rashes, irritability, dehydration, headaches, blurred vision, eye floaters, and dry eyes. The long-term side effects are more serious. These include birth defects, miscarriage, and certain cancers.
Don’t risk it. Keep your computer as far away as possible and limit your time using computer to mitigate some of the exposure.
