Do You Need a Low Radiation Baby Monitor?

Baby Monitor

Baby monitors are helpful in many ways, and a necessity for parents. But they do not come without worries – one thing being the EMF radiation they emit. This begs the question, “Do you need a low radiation monitor?” And if so, what do you need to look for, and which ones are best? Find out more about these helpful devices that won’t have you worrying as much about electromagnetic field radiation.

Why Do You Need a Low Radiation Baby Monitor?

There are three types of baby monitor devices – digital, analog, and WiFi. The problem is that each kind is an EMF radiation risk. Yes, even the analog ones emit a small amount. Of course, the other types emit more, but none are risk-free.

Why is this important? EMF radiation has been shown to cause a variety of health issues, especially to those sensitive to electromagnetic field radiation.

According to Natural Baby Mama,

Still, the amount of EMF emitted by baby monitors in the US is restricted to levels below those established in 1998 by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).

Now, there are some that claim to be radiation-free, but that is actually impossible with any that have an electrical current. Some claim to dissipate the radiation away from your baby. While others have shielding technology. It is important to note that none of these claims are backed by third-party tests or research.

But if you want to at least try one to be more aware of the dangers EMF radiation can cause, here are a few that claim to help.

Safety 1st Crystal Clear Audio Monitor

This inexpensive audio-only analog baby monitor is one of your best options for going low EMF. It operates at just 49 MHz but still has a 600-foot range or so. Now, you are trading in quality as far as the interference rate, so keep that in mind. Other devices in your neighborhood may have this exact same range.

First Years Crisp and Clear Audio Monitor

The First Years Crisp and Clear Audio Monitor is another analog option and is audio only (no video). You won’t need Bluetooth with this one. While it has an approximate 800 foot range, there is the possibility of interference.

Phillips Avent DECT Video Baby Monitor

The Phillips Avent DECT Video Baby Monitor is an excellent choice for when you want the option of video and audio but won’t need the video all the time. This is one of the less expensive baby monitors too. While it has a range of just 330 feet, this is usually plenty for most families.

I come from an R&D engineering background. Safely dealing with EMF was part of my work. As technology evolved and EMF moved from my work into the home, it became more important to deal with it in a sensible way. There is lots of controversy on EMF's impact to health. Fortunately, there are some simple principles you can apply to minimize impact and exposure until the science of EMF's impact on humans is resolved.
