WiFi Router Guards – Simple and Effective Way to Reduce EMF Radiation

WIfit Router No Guard

In this modern era, technology is already part of our daily lives. This technology brings with it risks.  Several scientists and scholars have discussed the health-related risks of electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation. Short of living off the grid in the wilderness, you’ll encounter emissions in one way or another.

Most homes have wireless connections all around their vicinity with 24/7 performance from their WiFi. This means individuals are exposed to harmful radiation throughout the day in their own homes.  While living in the forest, may be the safest solution, there are other options like Wifi Router Guards.

What You Should Know About WiFi Radiation

Routers emit radio frequency (RF) radiation to provide a network connection for your devices. This radiation is known in shorthand as WiFi. Several health conditions have been linked to WiFi radiation in many individuals. Some of the conditions are heart palpitations, fatigue, insomnia, muscle aches, headaches, and brain fogs.

However, by putting some measures in place, anyone with sensitivity to EMF radiation can reduce exposure to radiation from WiFi. As mentioned earlier, among the most effective and straightforward method is the use of WiFi router guard.

What is a WiFi Router Guard?

Concerned designers and engineers have come up with a box designed with a metal mesh that works like a Faraday cage. This box is referred to as the WiFi router guard. It works simply by placing the router inside the guard to cover the router.

Using a router guard is easy. While the router is working, the mesh will serve as a conductor for the radiation. By so doing, it prevents the high frequency emissions from impacting people near by. If you select the right type of WiFi router guard, it will safeguard you against 99% of EMF radiation coming from your WiFi router.

Router Guard Options

Router EMF protection can be done through several methods. While some are expensive, others are quite affordable and do not require special know-how. Some great options include:

CageSmart Meter Router Guard: According to the developer, this router guard protects against 95% of the router’s EMF radiation. It’s a classic Faraday cage, which is available in small and large sizes. The large model has a dimension of 12-3/8″ by 12-5/8″ by 5-1/2, the small model is 12″ by 9″ by 3″ in size. You can purchase a small-sized unit for $52.95, and the large size is available for $72.50. However, the small smart meter router guard can comfortably protect most routers.

Faraday Defense Router Shield: Here is a $190 EMF router guard with a dimension of 3.5″ by 10.25″ by 12″. Thus, it is large enough to cover most routers. It is a heavy-duty model with a protection rate of 99.9% reduction. In other words, it offers sixty dB signal reduction or attenuation.

SignalTamer:  This router cover delivers similar service to WiFi router guard. Simply place your router inside the SignalTamer. This model will conveniently fit most routers with an overall dimension of 10″ by 16.” According to the developer, it offers 90 to 95% attenuation power, but it reduces the range of the WiFi signal. The specifications say you’ll get a good connection in the space of 20 feet. A unit of SignalTamer is available for $50.

Create a Personalized Router Guard

You can setup a router guard easily with a metal mesh and solder. However, a basic knowledge of soldering or welding to make a good electrical connect is a skill you will need to use for this option. You simply create a box out of mesh and make connections with a weld or solder at corners where continuity is broke.

Other Options

  1. Change your router’s location: Find a space in your house where you rarely visit to put the router. Exposure to WiFi radiation will reduce with increased distance.
  2. Deactivate your Router at Night: Another effective measure is to turn off your router when not in use, especially during the night. Also, you can read your user’s guide to learn about how to deactivate it automatically. By implementing this measure, it’ll help reduce constant exposure to harmful WiFi emissions for several hours.
  3. Hard-wire: While this measure is usually the last option for many people, changing WiFi for Ethernet is a highly effective solution to reduce emissions.
  4.  No-tech solution: Here is a less pretty option but inexpensive. Simply use a mesh wastebasket to cover your router by placing it upside-down. To improve the effectiveness, position the router on a piece of furniture and cover with the mesh wastebasket. Alternatively, you can use a hidden corner.

Conclusion

It’s almost impossible to escape WiFi radiation, as most of us can’t do without it. After all, having a nice time on Netflix, using a tablet, or playing video games is easier with WiFi. Thus, rather than getting rid of the WiFi connection, it is perhaps more reasonable to take EMF protection measures to reduce the level and duration of exposure. Using an EMF router guard or router cover is a simple and effective way to start. Stay safe.

I come from an R&D engineering background. Safely dealing with EMF was part of my work. As technology evolved and EMF moved from my work into the home, it became more important to deal with it in a sensible way. There is lots of controversy on EMF's impact to health. Fortunately, there are some simple principles you can apply to minimize impact and exposure until the science of EMF's impact on humans is resolved.
